Baitercell is an award-winning electronic music producer and engineer, Chris Chetland. He is known for his award-winning production and mixing, and mastering, having worked with prominent artists like Jakob and Scribe. Baitercell is the founder of Kog Studio and often collaborates with artists Rei and Huia, incorporating Te Reo Māori into his music, which often carries conscious and political themes, because it’s nice when lyrics mean something or make you think.
Baitercell has helped to pioneer the dance music scene in Aotearoa over nearly 3 decades. Since 1996 he has helped pioneer the dance music production scene, having played the seminal underground warehouse parties like 398 and Normanby Rd, releasing EPs such as 'Prototype' in 1999, and going on to win best unreleased track at the b.net [SRN] awards in 2003 for 'Nasty Gymnastix', as well as being a finalist at the NZ Music Awards [as Baitercell and Schumacher for Best electronic/dance album for 'The Wall of Bass Technique'] and achieving 2 #1s on the world Breakbeat charts.
After stepping back in 2006 from a focus on releases to helping others with their production (which has seen him being a Silver Scrolls finalist as well as regularly having chart placement and gold and platinum credits) and popping out the odd tracks, such as Ghosts (with Kevin Mark Trail) and the Toka EP, Baitercell have begun releasing more track, recently with Huia (Kākano), which reached #4 on the NZ hot singles chart, and upcoming 'Hoea Rā' with Just2Māori.
Additionally, there are multiple collaboration tracks with artists with Pakō Pakō on the horizon. With regular spots on George FM's breakfast show and global playlisting of his collaborations, Baitercell is in a new era of his Wall of Bass, big sub and high production music.
